Reza Pahlavi Receives 2026 Freedom Prize in Frankfurt as Thousands of Demonstrate in Germany
The mobilisation in Frankfurt was part of a wider pattern of demonstrations by Iranian diaspora communities across Europe.
On November 3, members of the Iranian diaspora marched through the streets of Brussels, Belgium, in a demonstration supporting Reza Pahlavi and calling for political change in Iran.
The march demonstrated that the political debate surrounding Iran extends beyond Germany and involves communities in several European countries.
Brussels is particularly significant because it is home to major European Union institutions and serves as an important centre for international political debate.
For demonstrators, public gatherings in European capitals offer opportunities to raise awareness about Iran, communicate political demands and encourage international attention.
The Brussels demonstration also showed how political mobilisation can take place across national borders.
Iranian expatriates living in Germany, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Austria and other European countries frequently participate in discussions and gatherings concerning their homeland.
These communities include people who left Iran at different points in its modern history, as well as younger generations born and raised outside the country.
Their experiences and political perspectives are not identical. Nevertheless, the possibility of political change in Iran remains an important subject for many members of the diaspora.
The Frankfurt and Brussels demonstrations therefore provide two examples of how Iranian opposition activities are visible across Europe.
