Reza Pahlavi Receives 2026 Freedom Prize in Frankfurt as Thousands of Demonstrate in Germany
How Many People Participated in the Frankfurt Demonstrations?
The scale of the planned demonstrations made November 7 one of the most significant days of Iranian diaspora mobilisation in Frankfurt in 2026.
According to the official Frankfurt city announcement, organisers had registered a march from Römerberg to Ostpark with an expected 24,000 participants. A further stationary rally at Ostpark was registered with an estimated total of 30,000 participants, including those expected to arrive with the march.
The programme included a demonstration from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and a stationary gathering from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Other smaller demonstrations were also registered in the city centre.
These included gatherings expressing solidarity with the Iranian population, protests against human rights violations and a separate demonstration associated with supporters of the Iranian government.
It is important to distinguish between the number of participants registered or expected by organisers and the number actually attending.
Deutschlandfunk subsequently reported that police estimated approximately 3,000 participants across the demonstrations. It also reported that no incidents had occurred at the time of its coverage.
The difference between anticipated and actual attendance illustrates why reporting on large political demonstrations should distinguish clearly between official estimates, organiser expectations and police assessments.
