Reza Pahlavi Receives 2026 Freedom Prize in Frankfurt as Thousands of Demonstrate in Germany
Emotional Scenes as Iranian Diaspora Supporters Rally in Frankfurt
One of the most striking aspects of the Frankfurt demonstration was the emotional response among supporters of Reza Pahlavi.
Photographs from the gathering showed demonstrators crying, embracing one another and holding Iranian flags as they assembled in the city.
The images illustrated the personal significance of political developments in Iran for members of the diaspora.
For many Iranian expatriates, demonstrations abroad provide an opportunity to express political opinions that may be difficult or dangerous to express openly inside Iran. Public gatherings in European cities also allow different generations of Iranian families to participate in political discussions and communicate their demands to international audiences.
Frankfurt has become an important location for the November 7 demonstrations because of the Freedom Prize ceremony and the presence of Reza Pahlavi.
Participants carried banners expressing support for the Iranian people, opposition to the Islamic Republic and hopes for political transformation.
The Lion and Sun flag was particularly visible throughout the gathering.
The historic Iranian emblem, which was used on the country’s national flag before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, has become an important symbol for sections of the Iranian opposition and diaspora.
For supporters of Pahlavi, the flag represents historical continuity, Iranian national identity and the possibility of a different political future.
However, its interpretation is not universal. Different opposition groups use different national symbols and political messages, reflecting the diversity of perspectives within Iranian society.
