US Army xTech Edge Strike Ground Exercise, Unmanned Battlefield Technology, and the Strategic Risks of Retrieving Iran’s Enriched Uranium

Why the Isfahan Facility Matters

The city of Isfahan hosts one of Iran’s most important nuclear facilities, including uranium conversion and fuel processing infrastructure.

Reports that enriched uranium may be stored deep underground in the region suggest that the material could be protected within hardened or fortified underground complexes.

Such facilities are designed to withstand conventional airstrikes and could be difficult to destroy without specialized weapons.

This has led some analysts to speculate about alternative options, including:

  • Precision bunker-busting strikes

  • Cyber operations targeting nuclear infrastructure

  • Special forces missions to seize nuclear material

However, each of these options carries serious risks.
