Tehran’s Farewell to Ali Khamenei: A Nation Mourns, A Political Era Comes to an End

A Funeral Marked by Emotion and Endurance

The funeral ceremonies stretched across several days, bringing together large crowds in Tehran before moving toward other important locations connected to Khamenei’s life.

The capital became a sea of mourners dressed in black. Streets filled with people arriving from different parts of the country, many waiting for hours for the opportunity to participate in the farewell ceremonies.

The summer heat created another challenge. Temperatures climbed above 100 degrees Fahrenheit as crowds gathered outdoors, turning the funeral into an exhausting physical experience as well as an emotional one.

Images from the procession showed mourners walking through cooling sprays from water vehicles operated by emergency and security services. The scenes captured the unusual combination of national mourning and extreme weather conditions.

Some attendees wiped away tears. Others raised flags or photographs of Khamenei. Many remained despite exhaustion, determined to be present for a historic moment.
