Iranian Women and International Shooting Competitions

Iranian women have achieved notable results in Asian shooting competitions. Among the country’s successful female shooters are athletes such as Elaheh Ahmadi, Najmeh Khedmati, Armina Sadeghian and other members of Iran’s shooting community.

The history of Iranian female shooting includes participation in Asian Air Gun Championships and other international events. In 2015, for example, Iranian shooters competed strongly in the women’s 10-meter air rifle events at the Asian Air Gun Championship in India. Iranian athletes were also successful in youth and junior categories.

Najmeh Khedmati is another prominent Iranian female sport shooter who competed internationally in the women’s 10-meter air rifle. She qualified to represent Iran at the Tokyo Olympics and has competed in Asian Games, Asian Championships, World Cup events and other international competitions.

These athletes demonstrate that competitive shooting is not a new activity for Iranian women. Rather, the young trainees photographed in Tehran are part of an established sporting ecosystem that has produced athletes capable of competing at international level.
