Shooting Training Session for Young Women: Air Rifle Training and the Growing Role of Women in Sport
What Is Air Rifle Shooting?
Air rifle shooting is a precision sport in which athletes use specially designed rifles to fire pellets at targets. One of the best-known Olympic disciplines is the 10-meter air rifle, where competitors shoot from a distance of 10 meters.
Unlike conventional firearms used for military or hunting purposes, competitive air rifles are designed specifically for precision sports. The discipline emphasizes controlled movement, posture, breathing, trigger control and mental concentration.
For young athletes, the sport can be particularly demanding because small changes in body position or concentration can affect the location of the shot on the target.
A successful competitive shooter must therefore develop a combination of physical stability and psychological control. Training sessions can involve repetitive practice designed to establish consistent technique rather than simply increasing shooting speed.
The Tehran photographs illustrate this controlled environment. The young trainees are shown concentrating on their targets and working with their equipment as part of an organized sports program.
