Nicolás Maduro: From Bus Driver to President of Venezuela

Life and Political Beginnings

Nicolás Maduro was born on November 23, 1962, in Caracas, Venezuela. Growing up in a working-class family, he was influenced by his parents’ leftist ideologies. Maduro’s early life was characterized by struggles typical of many Venezuelans, which shaped his political views and aspirations.

As a young man, Maduro worked as a bus driver, a job that provided him with firsthand experience of the challenges faced by ordinary Venezuelans. His involvement in labor unions began during this time, where he quickly rose through the ranks to become a prominent union leader. In 2000, he entered politics by winning a seat in the National Assembly, marking the beginning of his political career.
