Visually, the result may look convincing.

But collectors and people interested in cultural heritage may distinguish between a reproduction and an authentic historical garment.

Authenticity can involve the origin of the fabric, the age of the components, the sewing method, the construction of the garment, the type of decoration, the coins used, and the history of ownership.

A garment preserved within a family can have additional provenance.

For example, if a traditional dress was worn by a grandmother, then inherited by her daughter, and later preserved by another generation, its cultural story becomes part of its significance.
