Who Is Hossein Taeb?
Hossein Taeb is an Iranian cleric, security official, and senior figure in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps establishment. He has held senior positions in several of Iran’s most important security and military institutions.
He is particularly known for serving as the head of the IRGC Intelligence Organization, a position he held for approximately 13 years. During that period, the organization became one of the most important intelligence and internal-security institutions in Iran.
Taeb has also served as:
- Commander of the Basij Resistance Force
- Deputy Commander of the Basij
- Senior IRGC cultural official
- Deputy Coordinator of the Office of Iran’s Supreme Leader
- Deputy Cultural Officer of the IRGC Joint Staff
- Commander of the Cultural Faculty of Imam Hussein University
- Intelligence official within Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence
- Adviser to the Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC
- Head of the IRGC Intelligence Organization
His career has therefore crossed several areas of the Iranian state: religious institutions, intelligence, military organizations, internal security, political-security operations, and ideological mobilization.
His return to the Basij is particularly notable because he previously commanded the organization during a period of major political tension in Iran, including the 2009 presidential election and the protests that followed.
