Rasoul Khatibi: A Football Legacy
Rasoul Khatibi, born on 22 September 1978, is a former Iranian national team player and a current football coach managing the Persian Gulf Pro League team Paykan. He is the younger brother of Hossein Khatibi, also a football manager and former professional player.
Club Career
Khatibi’s professional journey began with his hometown club, Tractor, following in his brother Hossein’s footsteps. His impressive performances at Tractor led to a transfer to Pas Tehran. His talent soon took him to the Bundesliga, where he joined Hamburger SV alongside Iranian internationals Mehdi Mahdavikia and Vahid Hashemian. Although his stint in Hamburg was brief with limited appearances, Khatibi returned to Iran and rejoined Pas Tehran. He later played for Esteghlal and Sepahan, where he enjoyed significant success, including winning the IPL championship in 2003. After a successful spell with Sepahan, he moved to Sharjah FC in the UAE and later to Emirates Club, where he signed a lucrative contract.
Khatibi’s playing career concluded with a role as player-manager at Gostaresh Foulad, ultimately retiring on 5 August 2013.
