6. The Iconic 1998 World Cup Qualification Match

Azizi’s most iconic moment came on November 29, 1997, during Iran’s World Cup qualification match against Australia. Iran was trailing 2–0 until Azizi’s assist led to the first goal. Minutes later, he scored the second goal, securing a draw and Iran’s ticket to the 1998 World Cup.

This historic game earned him the nickname “Asian Cheetah”, and his speed and precision became legendary.

7. International Club Career

Azizi’s talent took him abroad, and in 1997, he joined 1. FC Köln in Germany. During his three seasons with the club, he played 50 matches and scored 10 goals. He later played for the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS before returning to Iran.
