Ebrahim Raisi’s 40th Day Ceremony: A Powerful Reflection on His Legacy

Global Reactions

Raisi’s death prompted a wide range of reactions from around the world. Several countries and international organizations extended their condolences and sympathies. The United Nations Security Council stood for a minute’s silence in Raisi’s honor. However, not all reactions were sympathetic. Israel criticized the UN for holding a minute’s silence for Raisi, calling it a “disgrace.” Maryam Rajavi, the leader of the exiled dissident People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, described the crash as a “monumental and irreparable strategic blow to the mullahs’ Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the entire regime,” predicting that it would trigger “a series of repercussions and crises” within its leadership.

Domestically, Raisi’s death elicited mixed reactions among the public in Iran. While many mourned the loss of their president, others celebrated, reflecting the deep divisions within Iranian society regarding his leadership and legacy. Police in Tehran warned that anyone who appeared publicly happy about Raisi’s death would be prosecuted, highlighting the tension and sensitivity surrounding his passing.
