Daily Life in Tehran During Tasua Night
What Is Tasua? Understanding the Night Before Ashura
Tasua is observed on the ninth day of Muharram, one day before Ashura.
The word Tasua comes from the Arabic word meaning “the ninth.” It marks the day before the martyrdom of Imam Hussein at Karbala.
For Shia Muslims, Tasua has a special connection with Abbas ibn Ali, the half-brother of Imam Hussein and one of the most respected figures associated with the Battle of Karbala.
Abbas ibn Ali is remembered for his loyalty, courage, and devotion to Imam Hussein. Many Tasua ceremonies focus on honoring his sacrifice and his role during the events of Karbala.
