Why the New York Appearance Matters for Iran

The location and timing of Pahlavi’s appearance are important in understanding the international visibility of the event.

New York becomes a major center of international diplomacy during United Nations General Assembly week. Governments, diplomats, international organizations, businesses, journalists and advocacy groups converge on the city for a large number of official and unofficial meetings.

Pahlavi’s position is that the Iranian people should ultimately determine the political system of a future Iran. His international speeches have often focused on transition, political freedom, territorial integrity and national unity.
