The Story of Moragheb (Falling House): A Film That Won the Venice Film Festival Best Actress Award

Rashid: The Father at the Center of Falling House

Farhad Aslani plays Rashid, the father of the family.

Rashid is one of the most important characters in the film because he embodies the film’s central metaphor.

He is a prison guard.

His profession is based on surveillance, discipline and control.

When his professional authority begins to disappear, he attempts to recreate that authority inside his home.

This is where the title Falling House becomes particularly meaningful.

The house becomes a prison.

The father becomes its guard.

And the people inside it become prisoners.

The metaphor is both literal and psychological.
