Javad Mojabi Funeral: Writers and Artists Gather to Say Goodbye to the Celebrated Poet and Critic
Javad Mojabi Funeral in Tehran
The Javad Mojabi funeral ceremony took place on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, corresponding to 18 Shahrivar 1405 in the Persian calendar.
The ceremony was held in front of Mojabi’s home in Koy-e Nevisandegan, Tehran.
Images and reports from the event showed writers, artists, cultural figures and members of the public gathering to accompany the writer on his final journey.
The location itself was deeply symbolic.
Koy-e Nevisandegan, literally the Writers’ Neighborhood, has long been associated with Iranian literary life.
For a writer who spent much of his career among poets, novelists, journalists and cultural figures, saying goodbye to him outside his home in this community created a particularly personal atmosphere.
According to reports, figures including Mahmoud Dowlatabadi, Amir-Hassan Cheheltan, Reza Sarvar, Mohammad Hosseini and Pouria Alami, as well as members of Mojabi’s family including Nastin and Pouppak Mojabi, participated in the ceremony and spoke about aspects of his literary and personal legacy.
Following the ceremony, Mojabi’s body was transferred to Imamzadeh Taher in Karaj for burial.
