The military symbolism of the exercise

The visual language of the Janfada rally was unmistakably military.

Participants marched in organized groups.

Some carried rifles.

Military vehicles and drones were displayed.

Flags were carried along the route.

Photographs of military and political figures appeared throughout the event.

Some participants wore burial shrouds.

The symbolism of burial clothing is particularly important.

Participants wearing burial shrouds were presented as demonstrating readiness to sacrifice themselves for Iran. Tasnim described the shrouds as a symbol of readiness for sacrifice in defense of the country.

The exercise therefore combines several layers of symbolism:

nationalism, religion, military preparedness, sacrifice and collective identity.
