Azadeh Akhlaqi: Mohsen Namjoo Marriage and the Shahin Najafi Controversy

Azadeh Akhlaqi Biography

Azadeh Akhlaqi was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1978, and spent part of her childhood in Mashhad. Her early education took place in Iran before she later moved to Australia for higher education.

Interestingly, her original academic field was not photography.

Akhlaqi studied computer science at RMIT University, also known as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, in Melbourne, Australia. Her transition from computer science toward photography, filmmaking, and visual art is one of the most interesting aspects of her biography.

The move demonstrates that her artistic career did not necessarily begin through a conventional photography education. Instead, her interests gradually developed around cinema, images, storytelling, and visual culture.

Around the beginning of the 2000s, photography became increasingly important to her. After completing her period of study in Australia, she returned to Iran and began moving more seriously toward cinema and visual arts.

Her later work demonstrates an unusual combination of analytical research and visual storytelling. The influence of her earlier education can arguably be seen in the systematic way she researches historical events, gathers information, and constructs complex visual scenes.
