Who Was Ahmad Rezaei Mirqaed?
Ahmad Rezaei Mirqaed was the eldest son of Mohsen Rezaei, a prominent Iranian military commander and politician.
He was born on November 20, 1976, in Masjed-e-Suleiman, Iran. His father, Mohsen Rezaei, would eventually become one of the most recognizable figures in the political and military establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Mohsen Rezaei served for many years as commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), particularly during the Iran-Iraq War. After leaving his military position, he continued to hold influential political roles, including serving as secretary of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council.
Because of his father’s prominence, Ahmad Rezaei grew up in a politically significant family. Yet his own life took a very different path from the conventional trajectory associated with the children of senior Iranian officials.
One of the most important chapters of Ahmad Rezaei’s biography was his decision to leave Iran and live in the United States.
His years abroad were particularly controversial because he publicly criticized the Islamic Republic and, according to reports, made statements that were critical not only of the Iranian political system but also of his own father.
This made Ahmad Rezaei unusual among the children of senior officials in Iran.
His biography subsequently became a story of political estrangement, immigration, reconciliation or rapprochement, and ultimately a mysterious death outside Iran.
