Tribute to Shahrokh Shahid: Mahroo’s Musical Journey and Legacy
Shahrokh Shahid (6 December 1328 – 12 December 1402): A Musical Journey
Shahrokh Shahid, known by the stage name Shahrukh, graced the Iranian music scene with his captivating voice. Born on December 6, 1328, in Tehran, his formative years were marked by the loss of both parents, shaping his resilience and determination. Raised by his older sister, Shahrokh embarked on a musical odyssey that began at Bamshad elementary school and culminated in studies at Rudaki Hall and Barbad Community Theater.
At the tender age of 12, Shahrokh initiated his artistic journey on Radio Iran’s children’s program. Encouraged by his father, he dedicated a decade to Ismail Mehrtash’s classes, immersing himself in the intricacies of Iranian music. His debut song, “I Love You,” at 14, marked the beginning of a prolific career. Subsequent hits like “Shaba Bito” and contributions to the Gharibeh series showcased his musical prowess.
In 1975, Shahrokh embraced a new chapter, immigrating to the United States to further his musical studies and contribute to the Philharmonic Orchestra of Los Angeles. The turbulence of the Iranian revolution prompted a return to his homeland, only to later resume life in the U.S. before the dawn of Ruhollah Khomeini’s entry into Iran.
Shahrokh Shahid’s musical journey met an untimely end on December 12, 1402, succumbing to cancer at the age of 74. Throughout his career, he stood firm in his political positions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, advocating for women’s rights and freedom, even during his illness.
