The strange fate of Ruhollah Khomeini’s companions after returning: From Qutbzadeh to Batavash
Ebrahim Yazdi was one of those who met a strange fate, like some of Khomeini’s companions on the Air France plane. Ebrahim Yazdi was one of the national-religious fighters who became the foreign minister of the Bazargan government after the revolution and resigned from this position after Bazargan’s resignation. Ebrahim Yazdi started his political career as a member of the Socialist God-Prospertan Movement. With the beginning of the prime ministership of Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh, he joined the supporters of the oil industry nationalization movement and became a member of this movement after the coup of August 28 and the start of the national resistance movement led by Seyed Reza Zanjani. He was active in the university, city, publishing, political, and executive committees, as well as being a member of the editorial board and publisher of the “Rah Mossadegh” newspaper. With the establishment of the Iranian Freedom Movement in 1340, he, along with Mustafa Chamran, Ali Shariati, and Sadegh Qutbzadeh, started to establish the European and American branches of this movement and was elected as the head of the Central Council of the Iranian Freedom Movement abroad. At the time of Imam Khomeini’s departure from Kuwait and the Kuwaiti government’s refusal to accept Ruhollah Khomeini and his accompanying delegation, he evaluated France as suitable, and with the cooperation of Sadegh Qutbzadeh, a house was prepared in Noufel Loshato for this purpose. During this period, he was one of Ruhollah Khomeini’s senior advisers. Ebrahim Yazdi came from France with Ruhollah Khomeini. With the formation of the Revolutionary Council, he was elected as a member of this council, and with the start of the interim government of Engineer Bazargan, he was first elected as the Deputy Prime Minister for Revolutionary Affairs, and then after the resignation of Dr. Karim Sanjabi from the post of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was elected as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He resigned from his position as prime minister after the incident of capturing the spy nest with the resignation of the merchant and entered the parliament as a representative. He was rejected for the next round of elections. The activities of the freedom movement were banned due to illegal activities. It is said that this movement supported the events of the 2018 elections. Ebrahim Yazdi was condemned several times for his illegal and anti activities. Yazdi lived in America with his family since 1339 and became a citizen of the United States of America. After being removed from government positions, he was imprisoned many times for various reasons, and the last time he was in prison was from October 9, 2009, to March 29, 2009. Suffering from old age and prostate cancer, he was diagnosed with heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and pancreatic cancer after many hospitalizations and was undergoing treatment in the last years of his life. Yazdi, who was planning to travel to the United States for surgery in January 2015, faced the opposition of the American Embassy to issue a visa, and due to his physical condition, he underwent surgery in the city of Izmir, Turkey. He was hospitalized in the last two weeks of his life due to his general deterioration after surgery. Yazdi died at the age of 85 in Izmir, Turkey, in the last hours of September 5, 2016.
