The Female German Football Player Sara Doorsoun: “A lot of girls have to fight”
German women’s football should be more colourful. While the men’s national team has long benefited from numerous players with multicultural roots, the women’s squad at the Euro 2022 only has three players with a migration background. The new DFB Vice-President Silke Sinning has made diversity one of her main topics – and in an interview she named a solution: It is difficult for the clubs to “get into traditional family structures where men still hold the classic management position. That’s why kindergarten and school are the first approach for me to make an offer here. If the girls here are enthusiastic about football, then they also manage to convince their father that they want to play football at the club.”
