Roya Nonahali’s artistic career officially began in the early 1980s when she immersed herself in theater. Her early stage work included acting, directing, and producing numerous plays, showcasing her versatility and commitment to the theatrical arts. Transition to Cinema

Her transition from theater to cinema marked a pivotal moment in her career. She made her cinematic debut in 1987 with the film “The Beloved Is at Home” directed by Khosrow Sinai. Her portrayal was praised for its subtlety and emotional depth, quickly establishing her as a serious actress in Iran’s film industry.

In 1988, Roya Nonahali earned her first major accolade—the Crystal Simorgh for Best Actress—at the 7th Fajr Film Festival for her role in “Khooban’s Wedding”, directed by renowned filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf. This award catapulted her into the national spotlight and opened doors to more prominent roles.
