Breaking Barriers: Paria Shafazadeh’s Journey in the Male-Dominated Turning and Welding Workshop

Learning the Ropes: Overcoming Initial Challenges

As a newcomer, Paria encountered numerous obstacles, including learning complex machinery and overcoming social stigmas associated with women in industrial roles. She reflects, “I was the only woman in a workshop full of men. The first few weeks were tough; I had to prove myself not only to my colleagues but also to myself.”

Despite these challenges, Paria’s passion fueled her perseverance. She undertook training and dedicated herself to mastering various machines in the workshop, including CNC lathes and welding equipment. “My goal was not just to operate a machine but to understand the mechanics behind it,” she shares.

Skills Development and Accomplishments

Over time, Paria transitioned from solely operating CNC machines to mastering the entire spectrum of operations in the workshop. Her newfound skills include:

  1. CNC Machine Operation: Paria has become proficient at programming and operating CNC machinery, turning raw materials into precisely engineered components.
  2. Welding: She has honed her welding skills, enabling her to perform high-quality welds that meet industry standards.
  3. Design and Prototyping: Utilizing her architectural background, Paria designs and prototypes custom projects, bridging the gap between design and manufacturing.
  4. Problem-Solving: She has developed critical thinking and troubleshooting skills that are essential in a workshop setting, allowing her to tackle and resolve issues efficiently.
