Nadere Hakim Elahi’s Visionary Craft: 5 Decades of Impact in Sculpture and Painting

Further Exploration into Sculpture and Painting

In her community-based practice, Nadere continues testing sculpture’s limits as well as painting. It’s worth noting that Stone is among the media she prefers using most. As a medium, stone has been recognized—for its strength and its classical beauty—thus acting out metaphorically on humanity’s staying power in spite of adversity. These stone sculptures by Nadere often seem timeless or solid, yet they have some sensitivity, speaking softly about the fragility of man every day.

Her collection titled ‘Refugee’ still remains one of her greatest achievements, defining her ability to combine artistic excellence with social commentary. Each painting in this collection depicts different aspects relating to displacement, such as despair, but also hopes with human dignity attached to them, making viewers understand a lot during the viewing period and hence gaining empathy.
