Farahani has been a vocal critic of the Iranian regime, especially concerning its treatment of women. On October 28, 2022, during Coldplay’s concert at the River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, Farahani performed a cover of Shervin Hajipour’s protest song “Baraye” with the band, a song that had become an anthem for the Mahsa Amini protests. This moment was broadcast live to over 3,500 theatres across 70 countries, making it one of the most widely seen acts of solidarity with the Iranian protest movement.
