Empowering Journey of Golshifteh Farahani: Resilience, Activism, and Triumph

Despite her remarkable success, Farahani carries the weight of her Persian heritage and the pain of her exile. She describes herself as a “handicapped soul,” as a part of her was lost when she left Iran. The wounds of exile, she explains, never truly heal, serving as constant reminders of the sacrifices she has made. “In exile, you really lose something of yourself; you have a wound that will never heal, you carry it within you until the end of your life,” she reveals with poignant vulnerability.

Farahani’s activism continues to be an integral part of her life. Fearlessly raising her voice against the injustices in Iran, she particularly highlights the tragic fate of Masha Amini, a young Kurd who was killed by the police for her failure to conform to strict dress code regulations. Farahani’s powerful voice resonates not only on social media but also through her actions. In October 2022, she joined the band Coldplay on stage in Buenos Aires, captivating an audience of 60,000 fans with a stirring rendition of the anthem of revolt, “Baraye.” This performance garnered worldwide attention and solidified her status as an influential advocate for change.
