This collaboration marked a significant milestone as the Red Sea International Film Festival provided post-production support for the French movie, signaling its foray into international co-productions.
Maïwenn, the director, also graced the red carpet at the Red Sea Mall, adding a touch of French glamour to the event. The period drama had its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in May, garnering attention and acclaim on the global stage.
The opening night of the festival was nothing short of a star-studded affair, featuring luminaries such as Will Smith, Michelle Williams, Diane Kruger, Maya Diab, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Aseel Omran, among others. The gala screening commenced with the presentation of Dubai-based Iraqi director Yasir Al-Yasiri’s “HWJN.” Based on a YA novel by Saudi writer Ibraheem Abbas, the film is set in modern-day Jeddah, offering a contemporary narrative with a supernatural twist. The story follows the journey of a kind-hearted jinn, an invisible entity in Islamic tradition, as he unravels the truth about his royal lineage.
