Did a Man as a Goalkeeper for Their Women’s National Football Team?
The president of Jordan’s FA, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, tweeted a letter “requesting a gender verification check” on the Iranian goalkeeper Zohreh Koudaei. Koudaei saved two penalties as Iran beat Jordan 4-2 in a shoot-out to qualify for the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup for the first time in their history. The match on September 25 ended in a goalless draw but was decided on penalties. The team’s manager has denied the allegations, accusing Jordan of seeking an “excuse” for losing the game.
