From Revolutionary to Reformist: Political Evolution

Post-Revolution Political Activities

After the revolution, Abbas Abdi initially supported the establishment of the Islamic Republic. However, as Iran’s political landscape evolved, he became increasingly critical of the authoritarian tendencies and lack of political freedoms within the regime.

He served in various governmental and research positions, including working in the Prime Minister’s Office of Research and Information, and as the cultural deputy at the Center for Strategic Research under the president’s office. These roles gave him insight into Iran’s political system and fueled his desire for reform.

Founding of the Iran Participation Front

Abdi was a founding member of the Iran Participation Front, a major reformist political party advocating for democratic reforms, civil liberties, and transparency. As a member of the central council, Abdi pushed for greater political openness and was a key voice in Iran’s reformist camp, especially during the presidency of Mohammad Khatami (1997-2005).
