Women Firefighters of Fars Province: Celebrating Fire and Safety Day on 7th Mehr

The History and Evolution of Women Firefighters in Iran

Origins of Women in Firefighting

Historically, firefighting has been a male-dominated profession worldwide, often associated with traditional gender roles. However, over the past few decades, many countries, including Iran, have recognized the importance of gender diversity in emergency services.

In Iran, women’s participation in firefighting began gradually in the late 20th century, initially limited to administrative roles. Over time, with increasing awareness about gender equality and the vital role women can play in emergency response, women started to be trained as firefighters and rescue workers.

Pioneers and Progress

The first Iranian women firefighters appeared in the 1990s, initially working in administrative capacities or supporting roles. As the need for comprehensive emergency response grew, specialized training programs for women firefighters were established. The Fire and Safety Organization of Iran has played a pivotal role in integrating women into active firefighting roles.
