The Funeral of Seyyed Mustafa Tajzadeh’s Brother: A Reflection of Political Legacy and Mourning
Political Challenges and Imprisonment
Despite his contributions, Tajzadeh’s political career has been fraught with difficulties. In 2001, he was barred from government employment after a clash with the Guardian Council over allegations of election fraud during the 2000 legislative elections. His outspoken stance against election irregularities and interference by conservative entities made him a target for political repression.
Most notably, during the 2009 Iranian presidential election protests, Tajzadeh was arrested amid widespread unrest. Amnesty International reported his detention, and he was convicted of “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the regime.” He served nearly seven years in Evin Prison and faced additional charges while incarcerated, symbolizing the ongoing tension between reformist voices and the conservative political establishment in Iran.
