Daily Life in Tehran During Tasua Night

The Story of Imam Hussein and Karbala

The emotional power of Tasua and Ashura comes from the story of Karbala.

In 680 CE, Imam Hussein and a small group of supporters faced a much larger opposing force near Karbala, in modern-day Iraq.

The battle resulted in the death of Imam Hussein and many members of his family and companions.

The event became a central symbol in Shia Islam.
