Highlights: Memorial Service for Shobeiri Zanjani in Tehran

Ayatollah Shobeiri Zanjani Death and Funeral

News of Ayatollah Shobeiri Zanjani’s death was followed by a series of mourning ceremonies across Iran.

His official channel reported that the funeral procession was scheduled to begin in Qom from the area around Jihad Square and proceed toward the shrine of Hazrat Fatima Masumeh. The first-night memorial ceremony was also scheduled at the shrine.

The death of a senior Shia marja traditionally generates ceremonies involving religious scholars, seminary students, followers, government representatives, and members of the public. In Shobeiri Zanjani’s case, mourning ceremonies extended beyond Qom and included a major memorial gathering in Tehran.

The Tehran ceremony subsequently provided an opportunity for national officials and religious figures to pay their respects.

Masoud Pezeshkian Attends Shobeiri Zanjani Memorial

One of the most notable aspects of the Tehran memorial service was the attendance of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Pezeshkian attended the ceremony at the Shahid Motahari Higher School and joined religious scholars, government representatives and members of the public in commemorating the late cleric. Iranian reports said that the president expressed condolences to Shobeiri Zanjani’s family and honored his scholarly and religious standing.

The president’s presence gave the ceremony a significant official dimension. However, the event itself remained centered on the religious and scholarly legacy of Shobeiri Zanjani.

Photographs from the ceremony showed Pezeshkian among senior figures attending the memorial. Coverage also highlighted interactions between the president and several other prominent attendees.
