Perseid Meteor Shower in 2026: Camping, Stargazing and Night-Sky Tourism in Semnan Province

Why Dark Skies Matter for Stargazing

Light pollution is one of the biggest obstacles facing amateur astronomers.

Artificial light scatters through the atmosphere and brightens the night sky.

As the sky becomes brighter, faint celestial objects disappear.

This means that an observer in central Tehran might see only a small number of bright stars, while someone far from artificial lighting can see thousands of stars.

Dark-sky locations therefore have enormous value for astronomy.

They are also valuable for photographers.

A dark sky allows cameras to capture the Milky Way, constellations and meteor trails more effectively.

For this reason, the growth of dark-sky tourism has become an important trend internationally.
