Rima Raminfar at Venice Film Festival 2026: Pillbox Hat, Style and the Return of Retro Elegance

The Pillbox Hat Is No Longer Just a Vintage Accessory

For many years, the pillbox hat was associated almost exclusively with historical photographs.

When people thought of the accessory, they often imagined Jacqueline Kennedy in the early 1960s, wearing a coordinated suit, gloves and a small structured hat.

That image remains important.

But the 2026 pillbox hat trend is different.

Fashion editors and street-style photographers have documented the accessory’s return throughout the year. At New York Fashion Week, pillbox-inspired hats appeared in wool, velvet, leather, fur and other materials, with some versions remaining neutral while others introduced animal prints and brighter colors.

At Copenhagen Fashion Week, the trend was similarly visible.

Vogue described pillbox hats as one of the defining retro accessories appearing on the streets during the Fall 2026 season. Neutral, leopard-print and embellished versions all appeared, showing that the trend is not restricted to a single color or aesthetic.

This is important for understanding the current fashion cycle.

The pillbox is not returning because fashion wants to reproduce the 1960s exactly.

It is returning because contemporary fashion wants to recover some of the elegance, structure and femininity associated with that period.
