Mahnaz Maimanat: Who Is the New Secretary-General of the People’s Mojahedin Organization?
Mahnaz Maimanat Elected Secretary-General of PMOI
Maimanat’s election took place at the beginning of the organization’s 62nd year, according to the PMOI.
The organization says the election involved members located in seven countries and took place through three successive rounds of voting.
In the first round, Maimanat reportedly received 56% of the votes. She received 85% in the second round and was ultimately elected with an overwhelming majority in the third round.
Her election marks a change in the formal secretary-general position but does not represent the emergence of an entirely new leadership generation.
Instead, Maimanat comes from the organization’s longstanding senior leadership.
That distinction is important when examining the PMOI.
The group has historically operated through a highly organized internal leadership structure, with senior members assuming different responsibilities within its political and organizational hierarchy.
Maimanat’s decades-long involvement means that her appointment represents continuity as much as change.
