Javad Mojabi Funeral: Writers and Artists Gather to Say Goodbye to the Celebrated Poet and Critic
Javad Mojabi and Independent Journalism
In the late 1970s, Mojabi was also involved in an effort to establish an independent journalists’ organization.
In early 1978, he and colleagues associated with major Iranian newspapers, including Kayhan and Ayandegan, participated in the formation of the Foundation for Independent Journalists.
Among those associated with the initiative were journalists and cultural figures including Amid Naeini, Mehdi Sahabi, Firouz Gouran, Sirous Alinejad and Mohammad Ghaed.
The organization ceased operating in 1979 following the Iranian Revolution.
This episode reflects Mojabi’s broader engagement with journalism and the question of professional independence.
His career repeatedly placed him at the intersection of literature, journalism, culture and freedom of expression.
