Early Life and Military Background

Esmail Qaani was born in the city of Mashhad, Iran, in 1957. Growing up against the backdrop of political upheaval and the Islamic Revolution, Qaani’s formative years were marked by a strong sense of nationalism and a desire to serve his country. He joined the IRGC shortly after its establishment in 1979, quickly becoming involved in military operations during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988).
