Apocalyptic Forces Invade Central Tehran: A Fictional Gaming-World Scenario

“SIMULATION INITIALIZED.”

A deep vibration passed through the pavement.

Windows rattled.

Street signs shook.

The lights inside nearby stores flickered simultaneously, and for a moment the entire commercial district appeared to lose its connection with the ordinary world, as though an invisible force had placed a transparent wall between the people of Tehran and everything they had previously understood about their city.

The young boy who had been watching the performers only moments earlier remained near the entrance of the gaming store, holding a small video game character in his hands, while his mother pulled him closer and repeatedly told him not to look outside.

But the boy looked anyway.

He saw the creature.

And the creature saw him.

The First Creature

The enormous entity slowly descended through the strange opening in the sky, moving with an unnatural combination of mechanical precision and biological fluidity that made it impossible for anyone watching to determine whether it was a machine controlled by artificial intelligence, a living organism from another world, or something entirely different that had been designed according to physical principles unknown to humanity.

Its body appeared to be covered by layers of dark armor, although the material seemed to change shape as it moved, and beneath those plates there were thin lines of light that traveled across its limbs like streams of information moving through an enormous circuit board.
