Reza Pahlavi Rally in Düsseldorf: Global Demonstrations Mark Mahsa Amini Anniversary and Call for a Free Iran
opposition supporters are preparing for a coordinated wave of demonstrations on September 19 and 20, 2026, with rallies expected to take place in cities across Europe, North America, Asia and other parts of the Iranian diaspora. The planned demonstrations are being presented by organizers as an international expression of solidarity with the Iranian people, remembrance for those killed in the struggle for freedom, and support for political change in Iran.
The September demonstrations are closely associated with the fourth anniversary of the death of Mahsa Amini, whose death in Iranian custody in September 2022 became the catalyst for the nationwide “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement. Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman, died on September 16, 2022, after being detained in Tehran by Iran’s morality police. Her death triggered demonstrations across Iran and a global movement of solidarity among Iranians abroad.
The planned September 19–20 demonstrations also come at a time when Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s last shah and a prominent opposition figure, has intensified efforts to present a political and economic vision for Iran after the Islamic Republic. His supporters have increasingly linked demonstrations abroad with discussions about Iran’s possible political transition, economic reconstruction, democratic institutions and transitional justice.
In Düsseldorf, the political atmosphere surrounding the Iranian diaspora has already been particularly visible in 2026. On September 3, the city hosted the F.I.E. Conference Europe, a gathering focused on the future relationship between a free Iran and Europe. The official conference described its agenda as covering democratic governance, rule of law, economic reconstruction, industry, technology, energy, healthcare, environmental recovery and strategic cooperation between Europe and a future free Iran.
The Düsseldorf events have therefore placed the German city at the center of a wider discussion about Iran’s political future.
