Perseid Meteor Shower in 2026: Camping, Stargazing and Night-Sky Tourism in Semnan Province
The Perseid meteor shower brought Iranian astronomy enthusiasts, families, young people and tourists into the countryside of Semnan Province in August 2026, where they gathered under dark skies to experience one of the year’s most anticipated astronomical events.
On the night of August 13, 2026, groups of Iranian stargazers traveled into the countryside of Semnan Province, approximately 548 kilometers (341 miles) east of Tehran, combining camping, picnicking and amateur astronomy while preparing to observe the annual Perseid meteor shower.
Photographs from the gathering show an unusual but increasingly popular form of outdoor recreation in Iran: families and young people leaving the cities after sunset, setting up picnics and camping areas, and spending the night looking toward the stars.
Amateur astronomers brought telescopes and other observation equipment, while astronomy enthusiasts helped visitors identify constellations and understand what they were seeing in the night sky.
One of the most visually striking scenes shows an Iranian amateur astronomer standing beside a telescope and using a green laser pointer to identify a constellation for tourists participating in an astronomy training session.
The event demonstrates how stargazing in Iran, astronomy tourism, camping in Iran, and dark-sky tourism can combine into a distinctive outdoor experience.
For many participants, the Perseid meteor shower was not simply an astronomical event.
It became an opportunity to escape the city, spend time outdoors with friends and family, enjoy a picnic under the stars and experience the Iranian night sky away from artificial light.
