Ta’zieh Like Light: Highlights of Mehnaj Ta’zieh Center Performance at the House of Artists

Introduction

Ta’zieh, often described as a sacred performance filled with emotion, music, poetry, and spiritual storytelling, is one of the most important traditional performing arts of Iran. Known as a form of Iranian ritual theatre, Ta’zieh combines dramatic acting, chanting, symbolic movement, and traditional music to narrate stories of sacrifice, courage, and devotion.

The recent Ta’zieh assembly organized by the Mehnaj Ta’zieh Center at the entrance area of the House of Iranian Artists attracted attention from audiences interested in Iranian traditional arts and cultural performances. The program featured the martyrdom Ta’zieh of Mr. Horr (Hurr ibn Riyahi), one of the most emotional and symbolic stories in the Ta’zieh tradition.

The performance was part of a special artistic program planned across several “light-like houses” in the grounds of the artists’ house, creating a unique atmosphere where traditional Iranian theatre met contemporary cultural spaces.
