Who were the executioners of Majidreza Rahnavard in Mashhad?
Four days later, on the morning of 12 December 2022, Rahnavard was publicly executed by hanging from a crane, 23 days after his arrest by the authorities. Shekari’s execution took place within a prison, but officials subjected Rahnavard to a public execution. Unconfirmed reports stated that he was 23 years old at the time of his execution. While at least 488 people had been killed by police during the protests by the time of the execution, Rahnavard was only the second, after Shekari, to be formally executed for charges stemming directly from his involvement in the protests. Following Rahnavard’s execution, the judiciary posted an announcement confirming Rahnavard’s death in front of a group of people watching behind barricades; they also posted photos of Rahnavard’s execution.
