Shahram Abbasi, Fired in Iran and Relocates from Mashhad to Ontario: Continues for Academic Integrity at Western University
After being fired in Iran, Shahram Abbasi has shown remarkable resilience in continuing his academic journey. His expulsion from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad marked a turning point in his career, but it did not dampen his passion for education, research, and the protection of academic integrity. The expelled professor chose to relocate from Mashhad to Ontario, finding a new home at Western University, where he could pursue his academic goals free from the restrictions and political pressures he faced in Iran.
Dr. Shahram Abbasi, with a PhD in physics from Ferdowsi University (2013), has long been passionate about theoretical astrophysics, magnetohydrodynamics, and accretion disk modeling. These research interests remain central to his work at Western University, where he now collaborates with leading scholars in his field. Despite the difficulties he faced being fired in Iran, Abbasi’s transition to Western University allowed him to continue exploring complex scientific topics and contributing to important research that advances the field of astrophysics.
In addition to his academic work, Shahram Abbasi, the expelled professor, continues to advocate for the importance of intellectual honesty and student dignity. His dismissal in Iran was largely the result of his vocal opposition to what he saw as growing corruption, pseudo-science, and inefficiency within Ferdowsi University’s administration. Abbasi has made it clear that his expulsion was not due to any academic failures on his part, but rather a consequence of his refusal to compromise his principles. He stood against the misuse of power and nepotism that he felt was damaging the educational environment in Iran.
