8 Essential Safety Tips for Women: Protect Yourself Inside Out
3. Safety in Numbers
Always say you’re with or waiting for friends.
Being with friends or family members can provide a strong sense of security. In public spaces, especially when you’re alone, you can create the illusion that you are waiting for someone. For example, if you’re sitting by yourself in a cafe, you can mention that you’re waiting for friends to join you. When using public transportation, stating that your friends are in a different section of the bus, train, or airplane can also deter unwanted attention.
Even when taking a taxi, it’s perfectly fine to say that you’re on your way to meet friends or family members, signaling to the driver that you are expected at your destination.
