Saeed Mortazavi: The Controversial Former Judge and Prosecutor of Tehran

Legal Proceedings and Convictions

Saeed Mortazavi’s legal troubles escalated following his removal from office. In the wake of his suspension, four cases emerged against him, with varying charges linked to his time as prosecutor. His acquittal in 2017 from complicity in murder related to the Kahrizak incident was met with widespread criticism, especially given the gravity of the accusations. Nonetheless, he received a two-year prison sentence during the same proceedings for different breaches of law.

On May 2, 2018, he was arrested in the Sorkhroud region of Mazandaran and transferred to Evin Prison in Tehran, where he remained until his release on September 7, 2019, after serving two-thirds of his sentence. This period marked a significant chapter in his life, during which many speculated about his future in the Iranian legal framework.

Personal Life

Beyond his professional endeavors, Saeed Mortazavi’s personal life has also drawn attention. He is married to Homa Fallah, a medical doctor, who has at times leveraged his political standing to secure positions within government-affiliated organizations. After Mortazavi’s appointment as head of the Social Security Organization, Fallah was appointed as the head of Shariat Razavi Hospital, evidencing a close intertwining of their professional trajectories.

In November 2012, amid increasing scrutiny over her husband’s legal troubles, Homa Fallah ran for the Tehran City Council, facing criticism over the potential misappropriation of government resources for her campaign. This merging of personal and political life reflects the complexities of navigating power dynamics within Iran.
