Public Reaction and Media Coverage
The sight of Saeed Jalili, a candidate in the 14th presidential election, driving around in a Tiba with different license plates has sparked widespread discussion. It has even inspired humor and satire, reminiscent of the wit often seen in Mehran Modiri’s comedy.
Jalili’s Political Journey
A report by Khabaronline provides an in-depth look at Saeed Jalili’s political career. He has participated in four presidential elections since 2013, three of which saw him as a candidate. In 2012, supported by the Stability Front, Jalili secured 4.6 million votes, placing third. In 2021, he was one of several candidates who withdrew in favor of Ebrahim Raisi, acting as a cover candidate.
Jalili’s political ambitions date back to 1999 when he aimed to represent his hometown in parliament. Despite his efforts, the societal climate at the time didn’t favor him. From 2001 to 2005, he served as the “Director of Current Investigations of the Leadership Office” before returning to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s government as the “Deputy American of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
Despite these positions, Jalili has continued to seek electoral success, although the reformist climate of certain elections hasn’t always been in his favor.
