4. British Roots of North Korea’s Beer Industry

The origins of the Taedonggang Brewery date back to 2000 when North Korea acquired the defunct Ushers Brewery, a 175-year-old British institution. Kim Jong-il, the former North Korean leader, ordered the brewery’s equipment to be relocated to Pyongyang, where it was reconstructed.

5. German Expertise in the Brewing Process

North Korea employed German brewing experts to assist in the setup and operation of the brewery. With their help, the Taedonggang Brewery began producing high-quality beer by 2002, blending European brewing techniques with local ingredients.
